"Thank you for serving hot drinks here today. I didn't have a place to live two weeks ago..." one of the local ladies told us while we were serving hot drinks in Birmingham's high street before Christmas.

We served the tradition of Good Neighbor Church during this festive season, " I am marked out by him to give good news to the poor (Isaiah 61:1)". Our brothers, sisters and volunteers in Birmingham provided different services to the people in need. We served food to the homeless in central Birmingham this month and we have children's painting classes in a regular basis at church. We also managed to have a hot drink station on high street fairly recently and we have started a candle-making class. In addition, a Christmas Eve countdown party was organised due to a young Hong Kong gentleman's request. Last but not least, we joined the programme by Birmingham City Mission to deliver Christmas gifts to local children.

We have a deep understanding when serving the local people in Birmingham. Winter is always a challenging season to live through. Whether for locals or Hong Kongers who just moved to the UK, this winter is even more difficult for various reasons. It reminded us when Jesus came to the world, Joseph and Mary had nowhere to rest in Bethlehem, and He needed to be born in a manger. So as we served the homeless in the city centre and chatted with them personally, we understood that Christmas is not only a time to gather with family and friends but also a time for us to receive Jesus in our hearts again.

Due to our work with Birmingham City Mission to help them distribute Christmas gifts to local children, we increased our ability to love through the service and to understand the difficulties of others, and our own challenges seem to have lightened.

In 2022, Good Neighbor Church provided various services, some large and some small, but we all used our talents to serve people. In the future, we hope to have every one of you in joining us and walk with us globally, hand-in-hand.
