[Shall We Prevail With Conscience]
November 2020 marks the 1st anniversary of the Siege of PolyU. It was out of imagination that universities would become battlefields with bullets shot around campuses. Hongkongers initiated rescue around the district and showcased their unity. To this day, some of the martyrs are still detained and suffering. The bars might be hard enough to imprison the body, but the determination and courage of fighting for democracy can never be confined.
After a year, Hongkongers are living under terror. The freedom of speech and autonomy in the universities are severely threatened and eroded. In PolyU, even a statue representing the protestors is not allowed to demonstrate and the slogans on the Democracy Wall are covered by black paper. Moreover, the government claimed to enter university campuses and take action in the name of the NSL. These acts are undoubtedly suppressing the academic autonomy and freedom of speech in universities.
Due to the implementation of the NSL, it is undeniable that the passion of protestors is a lot ebbed. The freedom and rights Hongkongers deserve are being exploited gradually. Countless absurd incidents slowly swept over the city. As November marks the 1st anniversary of the Siege of PolyU, we shall all uphold the courage and faith of fighting against injustice. The darkest hour is just before dawn. Let the ray of hopes in our mind brighten up the tragic days.
