What is foot binding/纏足？
There is a traditional culture in China, that is, Chinese women used to pass on bow shoes or what could be called foot binding. This tradition was created in the early 10th century by a dancer named Precious Thing.
At that time, women with smaller legs were considered attractive by husbands, and it helped women achieve a higher status. Therefore, in the 19th century, almost all Chinese women had their feet bound.
However, this tradition began to disappear after China's independence. Until now, Chinese women rarely bind their feet anymore.
