2021-10-27 16:13:59 HKFA awarded AFC Grassroots Charter Silver Membership

Hong Kong: The Hong Kong Football Association Ltd.’s (HKFA) application to upgrade their status to a silver membership in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s Grassroots Charter has been approved in recognition of their continuous commitment and efforts to develop grassroots football.

As one of the first Member Associations (MAs) to receive the AFC Grassroots Charter Membership in 2018, the HKFA created a systematic five-year strategic plan which provided the direction in all aspects of football development while highlighting the significance of grassroots growth.

With the aim of increasing participation, the HKFA introduced a wide range of programmes and activities comprising the establishment of the Hong Kong Jockey Club HKFA Training Centre, the Primary Youth Competition, the District All-Star Programme, U6 and U8 game format revitalisation as well as social responsibility classes.

In addition to events on the pitch, the HKFA also focuses on the optimisation of the grassroots football environment. A game-changing Child Protection Policy was established and incorporated into the coach registration criteria to protect the rights of children.

As part of efforts to promote football among girls, the HKFA launched various women’s tournaments and programmes including the Women’s Regional Youth Training Programme, women’s leagues and the AFC Women’s Football Day celebration.

The HKFA is also working closely with the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB), the Leisure and Cultural Service Department (LCSD) and the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) in developing long-term grassroots projects.

HKFA Technical Director Carlos Anton said: “After getting the Bronze Membership in 2018, the HKFA has developed a lot of educational programmes for different stakeholders, including district mentors, coaches, players, parents and even helpers in regular football activities and voluntary services.

“We are glad to receive the Silver status in the AFC Grassroots Charter, which is not only a reflection of our efforts in promoting football activities under the pandemic, but also in encouraging us to further strengthen the cooperation among all parties contributing to grassroots development.”

由於菲律賓今年只舉行一個六隊盃賽，2022亞冠未知能否如今年般取得1+1席位，要留待菲律賓足協與AFC處理。
