Yangsheng (Nourishing Life) as foundation for Health and Healing in East Asian Medicine (養生為基本保健正念之中醫)

The foundation of Health and Healing in Oriental Medicine are quite different from those of modern Western medicine. Oriental medicine and philosophy sees humans as an inseparable part of nature, and a person is considered healthy if his Vital Energy (Qì/氣) is abundant, vibrant, flowing smoothly, and in harmony with the wider rhythms of the cosmos. This is where the term of Yangsheng 養生 (Nourishing Life) emerged and various techniques were developed for this purpose, ranging from Meditation, breath and body exercises such as Qigong and Taiji, as well as broad and deep disciplines such as Acupuncture and herbal medicine.

In this event, dr. Yudhi Gejali (倪政漢) who are trained and qualified in both Western and Oriental Medicine and also Meditation practitioner will share practical tips and some simple techniques for Yangsheng 養生(Nourishing Life). These simple tips and techniques, if we do them regularly, will make our Qi / Vital energy abundant, and at the end will promote mental and physical health, and harmonious relationship with people around us and the universe.

Kingdom of Characters is a superbly written and extremely illuminating book, not just about the Chinese written language but also about the tumultuous history of China’s modern era and how inextricably linked language is culture and identity.

Her book follows the challenges of bringing the Chinese language into technological modernity over the last century or so that was mainly ordered by Western assumptions that established alphabetic scripts as the norm of intercontinental communication. The challenges she follows include establishing a national vernacular, a functioning typewriter, making the telegram work for Chinese characters, navigating a university card catalogue, character simplification and pinyin Romanization, and digitization.
